The Fishwrap is an old name for the press: for today’s newspaper was recycled in better times to wrap your fish and chips with. (Salt, no Vinegar, and hand cut chips with cod, please.) You cannot use newsprint for this now. Hygiene regulations. But most of us don’t read the news on paper either.

Well in yesterday’s paper, a true socialist — he was a member of the Alliance — came out saying it was our moral duty to take refugees, and those who oppose them are racist and not wanted.

Finally, are the less reasonable concerns – the racism, the bigotry, the ignorance. I am no fan of organised religion, including Islam. In fact I am a somewhat hardline atheist who supports a secular society.

But the idea that we are going to be ”swamped” by some alien culture is garbage. There must be no tolerance for racism or prejudice.

We have among our city the descendants of the tangata whenua, the Maori, and all those who have come in later times: Scots, English, Irish, Chinese, Lebanese, Dutch, Pacific, Polish, Vietnamese, and many more. We even have a few Australians. These people are not ”others”: today they are our friends and families.

Well, if you meet me, you will get the thick edge of my tounge. I have been in ths country longer than you: I have married a chinese woman whose family has been in the country, and I have worked with refugees. I see the problems and I see the costs. Blithely saying there will not be problems and bleatig it is racist will not work.

Besides, we can look elsewhere. Sweden is full of people of goodwill. But if your refugees are toxic, there will be a reaction. Do not reassure me with blithe promises when the same promises have led to this:

The government of Prime Minister Stefan Loefven is losing support as the Sweden Democrats — a party that wants to significantly reduce the intake of immigrants — surged to its highest level on record in a Statistics Sweden poll published on Tuesday.

The Social Democrat-led government, its Green Party coalition partner and their Left Party ally would get 39 percent of votes if an election were held today, according to the poll, which was compiled last month. In June, the bloc enjoyed the backing of 42.8 percent of voters. Tuesday’s poll showed the Sweden Democrats at 19.9 percent support, compared with 14.4 percent in June.

It’s the latest sign of the major change in sentiment sweeping across Scandinavia’s biggest economy as the Sweden Democrats — a party with neo-Nazi roots — forces itself into the mainstream of Swedish politics. It became the country’s third-biggest party in last year’s election and managed to block the government’s first budget, forcing it to form a pact with the core opposition parties in an effort to prevent the Sweden Democrats from disrupting lawmaking.

But voters are signaling they want the group to have a bigger say. And after Sweden’s generous asylum policies led to a surge in refugee flows from war zones in the Middle East, the government’s political clout has waned. Its budget pact with the opposition fell apart in October and both the coalition and the main opposition parties have since been forced to tighten their stance on immigration.

But calling people racist is the current meme. It is a scam. And it does not work.

No, quite the opposite actually, but don’t worry, it has been brought up many times. Because screeching racism at the slightest provocation without any evidence is sort of a stimulus/response kind of thing with you dimwits. In fact, the Guardian’s village idiot once crowd sourced a witch hunt to find anything in all of my many prolific writings that could be construed as racist or sexist, and the best thing they could come up with was my teaching armed self-defense to women so they could shoot rapists was “victim blaming”.

All this shaming is merely scam. It is emotion. And when the local fishwrap lets one of the people who are so left they are unelectable say that racism will not be tolerated I have but two things to say.

Firstly. This is my home. My family conquered the Taranki and took land from the Maori. We have been here for 150 years and six generations. We will not go elsehwere.

And if you insist, there will be blood. On. the. Streets. If not from the refugees, from the people. For this progressive elite will fall.
