There will be a reckoning [Phil 4]

This morning I found on my twitter feed some graffiti going around town saying that the rapture is in two days. I guess that is around the Jewish New Year, and many are looking at this as a year of jubilee (which it is in the calendar) and that there will be some kind of reckoning.

I know not when Christ is coming. I am not to know.

But we forget, at our peril, that the LORD is near and there will be a reckoning.

Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.

I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 3:17-4:7 ESV)

There is no excuse for us in the West. The Neolithic tribesman in the deepest and remote part of the jungle, who has not met a missionary and the gospel may exist — indeed, some SJW insist that the missionaries do not get there, lest they gain salvation and not acheive the equality of despair which is the goal of all progressives, but for the rest of us the gospel is available.

It is preached on most streets. Even in Christchurch, where I am today, there is a cardboard cathedral, and the presbyterians meet in the open where their church was.

The falling away, the exploitation of the gospel for profit, and the SJW entryists trying to destroy the church from within is predicted and predictable. Heresy has always been with us. Those who preach for profit or fame also.

But we must not make our belly — our gluttony, envy, lust and greed — our God. Our God became incarnate, and bled for our sins, taking the blame we deserve. We must hold to that.

For the LORD is in control, and the LORD is near. It may not be in two days, but a reckoning is coming.
