Don’t be Apostate. Don’t be an Orc.

Overnight there has been a spate of #OrcPosting on the burnt out remains of Twitter. There are two definitions of an Orc. The first is a goblin, made for destruction by either Sauron (a servant of Evil) or, lately by Saruman (A wizard corrupted by evil). They are subcreations, designed for destruction, and a blight on all the lands of Middle Earth.

The second definition is a person who has sacrificed their humanity for ideology. Who has made themselves less than human. Do not be that, for to be that is to be the shock troops of the apostate.

I love Tolkien: the books not the movies. The current set of lies we are being told to believe are designed to turn us into that which we are not. To be human, even in this broken world. is to reflect God, for we are made in his image. And the sin that damns us is to turn away from him, to reject him. It is the fate of those within the church who are against Christ, and I would not wish that fate on my enemies.

Hebrews 6:1-12

1Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ, and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, 2instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3And we will do this, if God permits. 4For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and then have fallen away, since on their own they are crucifying again the Son of God and are holding him up to contempt. 7Ground that drinks up the rain falling on it repeatedly, and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 8But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and on the verge of being cursed; its end is to be burned over.

9Even though we speak in this way, beloved, we are confident of better things in your case, things that belong to salvation. 10For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. 11And we want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, 12so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I will add that Muslims are not Orcs, nor are progressives, but there are Orcs among them. Many Muslims need to hear the gospel and realize that they are one with the pagans: under a strong delusion, and in need of Christ. It is those who oppose Christ in the law courts, within the churches and on the streets who need to fear for their souls.

We have to ask why there are orcs. The answer is that many consider that being part of the ideology gives them power. Some are corrupt. Some want to destroy. Some want to invade. The meme of the Orc is useful because many are acting as if they are in the army of evil from that great novel.

They have swallowed the narrative. They need to hear the gospel. For they may be able to stop being in that army, and they may be able to repent. Let us so pray.

But those who made them are on this earth to give us an example of what not to do. They will share the fate of their master, Satan. Do not be them and do not be like them.
