THis is going to be very short and bitter. If a nation falls away from righteousness, it will be destroyed. It matters not a whit if our fathers and forefathers were righteous and wise. The future of any nation is decided by the generation that is living. You can take a nation that was godly and debase it in but a few decades. The pattern of Israel throughout the time of the Judges and Kings is being repeated in the West, and what Moses said to Israel applies to us all.
25When you have had children and children’s children, and become complacent in the land, if you act corruptly by making an idol in the form of anything, thus doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, and provoking him to anger, 26I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that you will soon utterly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to occupy; you will not live long on it, but will be utterly destroyed. 27The Lord will scatter you among the peoples; only a few of you will be left among the nations where the Lord will lead you. 28There you will serve other gods made by human hands, objects of wood and stone that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 29From there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find him if you search after him with all your heart and soul. 30In your distress, when all these things have happened to you in time to come, you will return to the Lord your God and heed him. 31Because the Lord your God is a merciful God, he will neither abandon you nor destroy you; he will not forget the covenant with your ancestors that he swore to them.
If we do not cleave to the God who made us, if we do not live in a Godly manner, eventually we shall join the Hittites, the Incas and the Romans. our language will only be whispered by scholars, and the ruins of our cities will be a place of tourism. The future is here as a warning in Detroit, where the ruins of the old car factories are being visited by Backpackers who wonder at the site of the nation that made all those bombers and guns that flattened their Vaterland now falling into decay.
If we do not discover the disciplines required to remain a republic, we will fall. For righteous, not ideology, exalts a nation.
I’ve been reading the minor prophets in the NASB version for my intern class… they’re much more readable in the NASB than the KJV for some reason… .and DUDE. Micah, chapter three. Dude.

Oh, yes. Just been reading Helen Smith’s new book… very good until she gets to what to do. She underestimates how corrupt the leadership in the Western World has become.
I keep bouncing to really intense doomsday stuff in my reading of late. Not sure why.
What does she think we should/can do? I’m not sure what we’re called to do, Biblically, except live justly and righteously insofar as we are able. Looking around, all I can say is maranatha, which I realise I say to the point of being trite – but how fixable are our problems? Bug out or wait for the Lord’s return… is there a third option?
