A nightmare or Christ [I John 5]

I had a nightmare last night. In the nightmare, there had been an Islamist blow up our church. I survived. Irrational, but nightmares are weird [1]. But the bit that stuck was that I was asked by a reported how I felt.

I praised God that my friends and family were with Jesus, and prayed that the Muslims repent and find Christ, because otherwise they are damned.

I was told that you cannot say that, and the gospel does not say that. I replied that yes, I can say that, for that is the clear teaching of scripture. If we obey the commands of Christ, we love each other and the law is kept.

But those who do terror show that they are children of the father of lies, Satan.

1 John 5:1-12

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. There are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

I am trying to say this as plainly as I can, for many deny this.

If you do not accept Christ as your LORD and saviour, your very actions damn you. By the standards of God, none of us are righteous, We are all fallen: we are all broken.

None of us go through a day without hurting others, being thoughtless, or selfish, or doing things that damage ourselves. We are fallen and God is holy.

It is only through the work of Christ in dying for our sins that we can approach God with confidence.

And if you say this, you are hated.

A Northern Arizona University student was recently asked to stop reading his Bible prior to the start of one of his classes, according to audio obtained by Campus Reform.

In a recording of the February incident, provided to Campus Reform by Kevin Cavanaugh for Congress, Mark Holden explains the situation to History Department Chair Derek Heng, who had been called in by the instructor, Dr. Heather Martel, after Holden had refused her request that he put his Bible away.

“So, will you, will you, will you, put your Bible away?” Tweet This

Holden tells Heng that he had arrived early to his U.S. history course and, as usual, used the spare time to read his Bible, but claims that Martel had objected to the routine because she didn’t want to see a Bible in front of her.

“So Prof. Martel says that she doesn’t want you sitting in front of her because you put, you know, a Bible out, right?” Heng can be heard explaining to Holden, adding that while he doesn’t “know what the dynamics [are] going on in the classroom,” the “real key is to make sure that, you know, the class is able to go on and that you are in the classroom.”

“So she doesn’t want me in the front because I have my Bible out?” Holden responded for clarification, to which Heng responded by inquiring as to why Holden had his Bible out in the first place.

“No, I think she, I mean, well why do you have your Bible out anyway?” Heng asked, with Holden clarifying that he was “just reading before class” and that the class hadn’t “even started yet.”

Nonetheless, and despite Holden’s protestations that class wasn’t going to begin for “another five minutes,” Heng concluded the conversation by again asking Holden if he would put his Bible away.

“So, will you, will you, will you, put your Bible away?” he asks, to which Holden replies that he always puts his Bible away once class begins, stating that he only reads the Bible “before class” and always makes sure to stow it away “before class starts.”

The narrative of this world will drive you into hell, telling you it is heaven. Deny it. Choose Christ.

  1. Not that weird. The Copts had multiple churches blown up during holy week by the Islamic Brotherhood and ISIS has crucified Christians this year.

  1. The request looks like it originates from fear so I would assume there is something deeper going on in Dr Martel. Ah… such power in the scriptures that they need not even be read out to cause consternation to the unbeliever – knowing they even exist by simply being reminded of it is enough.
