Living through crisis [Habakkuk 3]

Well, the aftershocks are still happening in the lower North Island and upper South Island. However, that is not the crisis I am talking about. Thee are forces of reaction, who want the current system to remain, and who do not want their corrupt systems exposed. It matters very little if we are talking about the EU, the IOC, Formula One or the USA.

When the elite want things done they bring in activists, make a problem, and then enforce a solution.

When there is a democratic revolt they quash it in the courts.

And at times we will fear, reasonably and correctly, for the state is bringing the invader within our homes and forcing our congregations to greet him as he tells us that we will die if we do not submit.

Yet it is in this time that our witness and faith can shine brightest.

I hear, and my body trembles;
my lips quiver at the sound;
rottenness enters into my bones;
my legs tremble beneath me.
Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble
to come upon people who invade us.

Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

(Habakkuk 3:16-18 ESV)

And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

(Luke 17:1-4 ESV)

We will have allies that err, indeed we will err. We will need correction. When someone says it is natural to let one’s lusts run riot and to not consider others: to break the covenants of marriage because of progress and the patriarchy, we need to recall that all of us have base impulses we have to control. It is not about what feels natural. It is about your duty.

Which is to know God and enjoy him forever. For those who lust, it is to marry and produce the next generation, raising them to be godly.

It is not to have the gender and sexuality you think you would like, or to change your race or species. It is good to be male; it is good to be female, men and women both have their challenges and instincts — and both need to use their brain ouo choose the wise and righteous course.

For with degeneration comes destruction.

This is a time of crisis. May our actions glorify God, and may those in error repent, beginning with me.
