A note for the Jews [Acts 28]

There are two points I want to make, both true, and there is an apparent contradiction.

  1. God is not man, that he should repent. The promises to the Jews, given to Moses and Joshua and the prophets, remain.
  2. However, these promises point to Christ, and if the Jews reject Christ, they will be rejected.

Christ himself said that salvation came from the Jews. True: he was Jewish. True also: the Jewish council killed him. We can sheet the blame for that on certain rulers and a Jerusalem mob. But the Jews Paul were talking to left.

And in leaving, they walk in darkness.

When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. And some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved. And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

“‘Go to this people, and say,
“You will indeed hear but never understand,
and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed;
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and turn, and I would heal them.’

Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”

He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

(Acts 28:23-31 ESV)

John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.”

(Luke 9:49-50 ESV)

There are those who are Jewish who choose Christ. They do things in ways that are strange to me: my heritage is that of the British Empire, with a meld of Presbyterian Rigor, Anglican Poetry, and Methodist/Baptist Social Action. (That stool has fallen, but that is another talk). God bless them. For they preach the name of Jesus.

And those who preach the name of Jesus we should support.

Like the Psalmist, we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

But no man can stand in front of God and justify himself by the Law. That standard is too high, and if you say that you will not obey Moses the standards you have are too high. The very pearl-clutching horror the progressives have with Donald Trump’s unabashed heterosexuality implies they have standards.

We all stand damned. It is only in Christ that we can be saved.

So, to the Jews I say this: have no confidence in your genealogy it will not save you.

To the progressives I say this: your ideology will damn you. And yes, my Muslim friends, that includes you: your religion has been converged, and you are the shock troops of a corrupt and pagan elite.

There is only one salvation. Paul said the Gentiles would listen. Will you?

  1. I like it when the Gospel of Christ (and Him alone) is preached. The relatively recent error of the Jews being especially special has lead many into error thanks to Darby, Scofield and those annoying dispensationalists that flocked to the foolishness. Thanks for risking the wrath of those in error and fixated on the rapture to their detriment.
