Whipping the pundits from the temple. [Jn 2]

The bastard coach at crossfit programmed two high volume workouts in a row, both of which I struggled with because I twisted my back doing a snatch last week — and then did the same thing three snatches into the 35 in the first if five phases of the workout. Let’s say that I got through four phases by 40 minutes, and then in the last ten minutes I was able to do a rep, stretch out the back, do another rep.

Get home and the son wants to talk. He’d been asked by another lad how to make good friends. They both follow other parts of the alt right (particularly Stefan) and this guy wants to see eugenics and transhumanism. He’s thinking about how we can use technology to solve human problems. The son thinks that it is wrong, because people are not going to change. We don’t have the knowledge to be more than human.

We are heading into an election year in the USA and various crises continue to happen in the USA, and there are many who will argue that either socialism or capitalism are correct, and the righteous thing is to vote (for them) because that is going to bring the kingdom to earth.

This is not the way to think. The pundits are parasites. They sow not, nor do they make, nor serve. They regulate and take fees (functionally bribes) so we get permission to do things. One of the reasons that Jesus drove the money changers from the temple was that the certification of the sacrifice was as expensive as the sacrifice.

Note one more thing. Christ did not appease those who would regulate. He drove them out.

The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” But he was speaking about the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

(John 2:13-22 ESV)

Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

(Acts 4:32-37 ESV)

There are many who will take the second passage — if the first is a critique of the Tory mercantilist, paying tor the monopoly rights on a service, road, or regulation — as a reason for communitarianism. This is not necessarily true. It was not one of those things all had to do: you did not need to sell all to be part of the new community of faith.

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.

(Acts 5:3-5 ESV)

So we need not sell: indeed Paul argued that our first duty is to our family, and the man who does not support his wife and children should be considered akin to an idolater [1,2]

What we need to do is have some courage. It is going to be very risky to say the truth, or raise your children as a couple. The mother will be told — it is happening already with the Cooperite cult over on the west coast — that her husband is abusive and if she does not want her children in care she must leave him [3].

It will take courage to marry, and courage to live chastely. It will take courage to speak the truth.

The elite will fall as surely as the temple did. But expect them to double down, expect them to define to believers, as unbelievers, what it means to be “Christian”.

And remember our Lord used a whip on them.

UPDATE.
The picture of the mum and child was on the same tweet as the two party girls. Men, choose the potential Mum.

_____________-
1. Raising kids is fairly expensive. You need a bigger house, you need to support the wife to home school them (or be in a good school zone, or pay for a church school), your grocery and clothing bill is high, and then there are the cultural and sporting things that round the kids out you want to provide. And getting divorced increases the costs. If you worship money you are a fool. If you are single, you can easily provide for your needs — small apartment, less food… and have more resources for experiences.

But that money and those experiences fade and fail. IT is the next generation that makes history. Those who raise those children own the future.

2. This should not be used as a proof text for child support.

3. The risk of being neglected and abused in social welfare care, in NZ, is much higher that living with your parents. The risk of abuse from stepfathers is much higher than fathers. This is ignored by the elite. They care more that parents fear than children are protected.
