Anger.

I went to work this morning before I posted. While I was there, one of the nurses was looking at the internet (in her break) and said “there has been a bombing”. She was referring to two bombs that exploded at the finish of the Boston Maratnon. Now, the 45 NZ runners in the race are (thank God) safe. And the London Marathon is reviewing security.

But I’m ferally angry. In my youth, I competed in these races — locally: I never went to America or England to race. But I knew about these races, and wanted to participate. They are a security nightmare — because the event has tens of thousands participating. It takes a good six months to get ready for a marathon. And it looks like another event, one of the last great amateur endeavors for most, has been tarnished.

After music tonight, I will run. Regardless of the weather. Because no terrorist or security maven will dictate to me the risks I will take.

UPDATE.

2120h. Have run for around 30 minutes, despite pain from old injuries, and the fact it is raining. We need to claim this, my old sport, back from the haters and wreckers.
