I was a bit late to the party, but Bill Price found a video of a couple of preachers laying into men. If got me riled. Firstly, he called the women in the church the Daughters of God, and then basically blamed men for all their behaviour.
And if you disagreed, he claimed to be speaking on behalf of the Holy Spirit.
Now, it may be that the video was edited. But during it women got a pass. On top of that, the man was SCREAMING, which offends my Presbyterian sense of decency and good order.
I’ll come back to that after the reading, which has some useful principles.
1Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions. 2Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables. 3Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat; for God has welcomed them. 4Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
5Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. 6Those who observe the day, observe it in honor of the Lord. Also those who eat, eat in honor of the Lord, since they give thanks to God; while those who abstain, abstain in honor of the Lord and give thanks to God.
7We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. 8If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
10Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. 11For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” 12So then, each of us will be accountable to God.
Now, I commented over at Bills place, and I’m going to quote myself. The principle is that in Christ we are all children of God. IF there is a glory and preciousness for Christian women, there is the same for Christian men.

This video is a crock. It lifts Driscoll’s comments out of context. You should be ashamed for posting it.
1. Bill found it, someone else made it.
2. The person preaching is a heretic. How DARE he say such things to the SONS OF GOD. Have I made my point?
3. Oh I have not. Well, I am not so full of bullshit to say that the Holy Spirit is speaking as I am typing. He is, the blasphemer. If you have any understanding of Calvinism, you understand that men are totally depraved. The only good we do is by the grace of God, and the institution of marriage is one of those places where this is worked out.
Our prayers are always hindered. For we fall continually. But in Christ we can have reconcilation and peace.
Now, that is for men and women. Both are fallen, and both are accountable.
I’ll let my Catholic friends hit you with the Thomistic analysis, but that is equally blunt — your gender is not a pass.
One of the principles is that we are all equally needy in Christ.
Another principle is that we can choose how we worship and praise. The celebration of special days is licit. Ignoring them is also licit. We have to tolerate our brothers and sisters doing things in ways we don’t like. (Such as American preaching. I dislike it. Intensely).
But we still need to call error. Whoever was the preacher was in error. There is no theological difference between men and women –both sin, both are accountable, both can only appeal to God through Christ. For this division in the kirk — being gentle to the class that gets priveledge in the world — women, minorities — and being harsh on those who have responsibility and accountability — men, particuarly white — is a form of heresy. We are equal. And in that heresy, we drive people away.
For that this church will be held to account.
“Now, it may be that the video was edited. But during it women got a

It’s a clip of the sermon, but no it wasn’t edited, that’s really how the sermon went down. I see this videos enough with these guys and others that I get tired of them, it’s all of them doing the same garbage. Since they get talked about enough, I’m half-tempted to go ahead and transcribe the whole things (as related to Driscoll – he has four sermons at 45-60 minutes a piece directly relating to them done in 2009 and 2012, it’d take a while) if I can figure out a good way to do it. With Driscoll, part of the problem is the screaming and ranting, part of it is his false man-hating doctrine, all of which I’ve covered in various posts across my blog. The sad part of it, though, is that he does a good job on the parts that he’s right about. Unfortunately the rest of what he has to say disqualifies him from being anything other than a joke. My guess, from my last listen to them, is that one could pull at least 24-30 good blog posts (500-1000 words) out of them just by walking through them and commenting on them in order.
If you want to hear the whole thing, along with its companion sermon for women, both links are on http://societyofphineas.wordpress.com/2012/05/13/women-good-men-bad/ . The contrast in tone and admonishment is spectacular.
