I don’t like this passage. It confronts not only my enjoyment of trolling and wit, but it reminds me that I have to wait until I have a ring on my finger. And it is why my beloved has a calendar in her head, counting the days.
But it is more than this. It is a reminder that we are created for God, as men and women, and this is good. That we need to build each other up, and not let the virtue spiral lead us to a point where we deny that we are a dimorphic species, or claim a status that is not our own.
Brianna Wu is lying. She took on #Gamergate, and lost. The tactic of accusing anyone who opposes you of transphobia is ineffective because there is a tactic against it.
Do. not. care.
Do not speak of it.
For it does not build up.
1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, 2and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3But fornication and impurity of any kind, or greed, must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints. 4Entirely out of place is obscene, silly, and vulgar talk; but instead, let there be thanksgiving. 5Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure person, or one who is greedy (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes on those who are disobedient. 7Therefore do not be associated with them. 8For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light — 9for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. 10Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. 11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; 13but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Sleeper, awake!
Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
You know what is pleasing to God. What is good, what is true, what is beautiful, what honours your family, what builds up your beloved, and what bears witness to the truth.
Or the things that do not appear in 95% of the time in your twitter stream.
It is our job, as redeemed people. to not live in the habits of perdition, but to reform our lives. We have the spirit guiding us. We have scripture. Read it, particularly the bits you don’t like because they make you feel bad.
We have the Spirit, Pray for wisdom, when dealing with the infirmities of your body and the difficulties in your family.
And we have Christ, who died for us and will preserve us, for he is faithful. We should aim to be as faithful as he is, and as loving as he is, to death and beyond.
