Not ersatz Jews. Not sparkly Unitarians. [Gal 3]

From a conversation on Twitter, where some moron in Europe has decided it is her sworn duty to police hate speech: the Progressive Jews are akin to the Unitarians. They have converged. They no longer worship the LORD God Almighty, but the agenda of progression.

To quote Rabbi Korff of Boston, for he gets this:

It is so very difficult, indeed utterly unbearable, to sit silently by while Jews, and now the general religious and secular communities, completely misuse and distort the term Tikkun Olam– certainly not intentionally or out of any malice, but rather out of ignorance in the pursuit of virtuous goals and principles which may be applicable to general society and civilization but which have tragically become a poor substitute for authentic religious observance.

This repair rhetoric has become an obsession, a catch-all credo. Everything today is Tikkun Olam. Enough with the Tikkun Olam. It is a senseless and meaningless misconception, its true meaning nothing like it is commonly used and purported to be.

It is not at all a centuries-old tradition, it is not a call to action, and it is not a commandment. And to be clear, Tikkun Olam does not even mean repairing the world in the sense of social justice. Nor in traditional sources is Tikkun Olam in any way even a direct human imperative or action, but rather one that is left in G-d’s hands.

We cannot, and are not instructed to, save the world, or even to repair it. Judaism teaches no such thing. Rather, we are instructed to conduct ourselves properly, to observe the Mitzvos, the Commandments (which are not good deeds, but rather commandments, required imperatives), and in that way to contribute to society and civilization both by example and through practice and action.

For Jews those Mitzvos include not simply socially or politically correct precepts such as giving charity and engaging in political action, but also observance of the Sabbath, dietary restrictions (Kashrus), daily prayer, and other commandments which seem to have fallen out of favor and are ignored, if not openly denigrated and violated, in some segments of the community, as they substitute the false panacea of something they call Tikkun Olam for the authenticity of true Judaism, clinging desperately to Tikkun Olam to avoid their actual responsibilities as Jews to observe the Torah and the commandments.

Well, the orthodox are wrong in this: being a reformed Jew does not make you mentally ill. It damns you. Being Damned makes you mentally ill. For they neither keep the law (which none of us can do) nor accept Christ, through whom we can live and breathe and be free of the regulations and legalities of the Torah, to deal with the great and terrible command to love our neighbour as ourselves.

Without being religious: without being ersatz Jews.

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

(Galatians 3:1-14 ESV)

Never forget that Paul was a Rabbi, and advanced for his years in his study. His tutors are quoted in the Torah. He understands Pharisaic legalism, for he was a Pharisee.

Then he repented, for Christ. He realized he was not righteous, but instead envious and a murderer. He thought he had kept all the laws, but one: he coveted.

And in Christ he found forgiveness.

This is why we need to preach a bit like our friend the Rabbi. For the law is still there. It has not gone away: the moral codes are not merely written within the Torah but within our nature. For man sought God before Moses.

And saying there is no sin but intolerance is a terrible error. The Law is still profitable for teaching and correction.

What is happening, instead, is that the progressives have moved to being evil, and in their equality they promote the same. The convergence is not a convergence of salvation, but designed to make work for me. And I’m busy enough.

Promoting trans acceptance among children also undermines the family order, such as it is these days, in the traditional, Leftist fashion: by giving children a voice. When women were given the vote, they were at the same time encouraged to consider their own, individual interests, as opposed to those of their husband, their children, or their family as a whole. If a wife decided she disagreed with her husband on politics, she would break with him and vote her own way. The divorce between husbands and wives on matters of politics sowed the seeds for normalization of more extensive marital divergences later on. In the same way, telling children that they can be trans, that it’s okay to want to change your sex, and to assist them in doing so, with or without their parent’s knowledge or consent, can only serve to divorce children from their parents even more than they already are.

That encouraging transgenderism among children amounts to child abuse will soon become the main line of argument for those opposed to trans normalization, and it’s a powerful argument. After all, young children make all sorts of extravagant claims—boys claim to be knights or dragons; girls claim to be unicorns or princesses—that we don’t take seriously, so why should claims of being trans be given any more consideration? And children are routinely barred from making important decisions, especially ones that could be deemed harmful, such as driving, consuming alcohol, or consenting to sexual relations. It makes little sense that people who are not considered responsible enough to have sex should be given permission to choose their sex.

Indeed, it would be very easy for pro-trans parents to subtly force their child down the trans route based on a few crazy utterances he or she made when merely five-years-old. And considering the drastic physical changes undergone by transsexuals and the psychiatric problems often experienced by trans people in general, such a road should not be tread lightly and the decision should be made only by a person having reached the age of majority. This approach combines compassion for trans people while preserving traditional gender norms, and so it will be very popular in the future.

The Left will not accept this transphobic bigotry, of course, because their goal is precisely to undermine traditional gender norms. If children are not permitted to choose their sex, if changing one’s sex is considered a serious and even dangerous matter, then the basic dichotomy of man and woman will remain largely intact. People who change sex will be looked upon as abnormal, and people who are more “gender fluid” will be considered especially insane. There will still be women, and most intolerably, there will still be men.

At this point I want to remind the reader, muttering that they better go to the relevant councils and complain that Chris is a transphobe, that man was designed in the image of God. There is an issue here of destroying the natural order and the protective structures which keep children safe.

And those who do have issues with gender identity do have many more problems, a high suicide rate, often many other issues without considering despair, mania and madness. Most people in our society pair bond with the other sex. From that the world is peopled. All of us find it difficult when we are rejected and unloved, and the transgenders do poorly in the sexual and marriage marketplace. And that is without discussing the side effects of gender reconstruction, or the ongoing risk of despair and suicide.

What the Unitarians and reformed and their fellow travelers are in is a holiness spiral: to signal their virtue they have to take more extreme and ridiculous positions. It is akin to a house of cards. The real house shelters them.

To those who struggle with such, my sympathies and prayers. I know some bleakly courageous folks who say the change is about identity, and live alone, accepting the cost of their choices.

But those who are trying to use such as a wedge to destroy the young, Christ had a comment about millstones and cliffs. Which our new EU censors would call hate speech. I fully expect them to ban the Bible, and regulate the teaching of the reformed and faithful, because of the feelz of their protected classes.

But unless they, also, repent, they too will converge with the damned. Do not be them. Do not be like them.
