An offense to this world. [Rom 5]

There is a fair amount of noise, because later today (About 6 PM my time) the polls open for the Referendum as to if the UK should remain part of the European Union. I have never liked the European Union: it destroyed the very nice niche New Zealand had as an antipodean British Farm, placing quotas on our products and driving us into a disastrous experiment in state-run industrialization. It is hard to smelt iron ore from Sand (we can) and undercut those who sit on rich seams of ore.

But there is a greater flaw. The EU is converged more deeply than California, and considers that if all is well-regulated, all will be well. As if man is a machine, using rational choices. As if economic models are real, and regulations must exist to fit us into the model.

As if salvation comes by regulation. It does not. It is by the grace of God.

You cannot regulate away the cross.

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

(Romans 5:1-11 ESV)

What we need to preach is Christ crucified. This will offend those who lie to regulate all, for the necessity of the Cross states that all have sinned and all are damned without it.

The most saintly people I know are very aware of their sin.

It offends the tribalists, for salvation does not arise from the volk. All nations rise and fall. It offends the globalists, because there is no idea of convergence into an undifferentiated Borg. Christ is not about a convergence, or that Britain is best.

The Cross is an offence to this world. The elite would regulate it away. Do not join them in perdition: pray instead that the cross will bring them, again, to godly sorrow, and those tears to a change, and that change to the cross.
