I like Science Fiction. I read a fair amount of it. But I don’t do cons. Because I know the kiwi True Fans. They are somewhat less nerdy that I am, but they are progressive.
God, are they progressive. They shunned Jerry Pournelle in the 1980s because he liked guns. And they won’t talk about the institutionalized predation within their ranks.
I don’t mind geeks. I better not, for better or worse, I am one. But I prefer the religious and alt right crowd. In part because they outed the false kings of fandom. And because fandom is akin to being a high level mage in dungeons and dragons: it takes time, but it is not real.
And staking our identity on such is the position of a fool.
Before then it was safer to be caught in public wearing ass-less chaps and a posing pouch than it was to be seen in a Star Fleet uniform.
The people that went to the cons never fit in anywhere else. Most were at least one standard deviation above the norm in terms of intelligence but it didn’t do them any good. Instinctive knowledge of social mores was impossible for them. The truth is their efforts to raise their status among their peers with frequent displays of superior intellect, annoyed the crap out of everyone around them. They paid for it socially and a failure loop was established. Today we would think of these people as high functioning autistics. The truth is that a normal life was always beyond them.
Most of them were poor. The money to get a hotel room and pay for Con registration was a major investment for them.
Loneliness infected every facet of their lives. Sex was limited to self help. No one shared their interests or if they did, those people had the damn good sense to keep that shit to themselves. Sharing those interests with nerds was nowhere near worth the ensuing pariah status in high school.
When the Cons came along, these defectives could wrap themselves in a world where they could pretend that they were secret kings. The Identity of the TrueFen was established along with their lords and leaders the SMOFs. It was their safe space. It was their only social outlet It was their escape.
Their real lives were lived entirely in support of this secret identity. An identity that gave them worth and eased the pain of loneliness. The real world turned into the Mundane World and became even more hated than it was before.
And the secret horror beyond imaging was being forced out of it. The SMOFs had that power.
So what happens when a SMOF turns out to be an unspeakable abomination?
Simple, you don’t let yourself think about it. And you scream until your lungs blow out completely at anyone who tries to make you.
Anything is better than risking the Identity of the Secret King.
The trouble is that projection is a means of coping. If you have some fairly horrid things in your background, you do not do your darn duty and confess your sins and get on your knees before the altar and make it alright. Instead you blame others. You burn down the true and good so that you do not have to compare that with yourself.
You hate the true, the right and the proper. Example of the week is Disney.
Walt Disney was a noted conservative all of his life. His brand wasn’t just family friendly. There was an attempt in all of his works to say ‘this is what my vision of America is.’ There were morals and values on display in all of his animated shorts as well as in his feature films. This was what had made him a target of Hollywood Communists in the first place. They nearly destroyed his studio during the 1941 strike.
Two things saved him at that time. First America went to war and needed propaganda films, so Walt got a big War Department contract to tide him over. Second because of the first, Walt was able to go through the Communist infiltrators at his studio with a gutting knife. He ruthlessly saved Disney Studios by chopping down his head count from 1,200 to a little over 700, (Vox Day, take note).
In Walt’s own words, “it cleaned house at our studio” and got rid of “the chip-on-the-shoulder boys and the world-owes-me-a-living lads”.
When Walt passed away, his family tried to keep the honor clean but Disney was long since a publicly held corporation. There is only so much you can do under those circumstances. Yet the ghost of Walt largely did keep them out. Roy Disney kept Hollywood liberalism within the bounds of sanity. But sadly even the most glorious reign must end some day. Entryism has now been completed at Disney studios and it is well on its way towards becoming an SJW convergent zone.
The last movie with an openly right wing message was from Pixar, rather than Disney proper. Monsters University and it’s central theme of There Are Some Things You Just Can’t Do, So Live With It.
The first of the Marvel Studios movies were very pro-America. And then Disney bought up Marvel And you’ve seen what’s happened to those movies since then. The films have remained competent but America is now clearly the greatest problem in the world.
The entryist has an agenda. Part of it is covering the damage that the needle has done to their soul. Avoid such.
Hire not such.
And do not be them, for the elite considers such idiots of the useful variety.
Funny thing is, America is the greatest problem in the world – because it is the base of the progs, the SJWs, and it is through their economic and political clout that they exercise control not only of America, but they have vast global power, too.
Oh, agreed. The French elite don’t have the reach because they write everything in a language that is understood by a small minority of the world. But every one watches things from hollywood.
Unfortunately.
