This is one of those difficult passages: It challenges us on ‘Once saved always saved’. Or does it. For the idea that all are saved within the church visible is a fundamental error. There are those in the church who want to form of religion but deny the power of it.
And the sacraments of the faith will not save alone. They are external acts, that should symbolize an internal change. The Churchian assumes that religion is about comfort, but those of Christ know that the church is not about religion, nor about comfort, but instead Christ.
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
(Hebrews 3:12-19 ESV)
We live in a society and a generation that has rebelled: the children of the overtly Christian war generation — which progressives such as Orwell railed against, but included Schaeffer, Stott, Lewis and Solzintysn — were the hippies and Gramscian socialists who destroyed morals and religion in the name of “liberation” and with an agenda that there would be nothing but the state.
As if God made us not good enough, not capable enough, and we can engineer a world before the fall, and go back to the Garden. As if this world is not fallen, and that this generation has no evil to fight.

I find about what the Islamic State is doing on twitter. The local paper has the left united that NZ should not put troops into Iraq to help in an anti Islamic State Coalition, as is our treaty obligation.
The left want us impotent against the enemy (the parallels with Labour during the last intergenerational crisis are obvious) or counting Russia as the enemy, as if ordinary European power politics in the context of a failing socialist experiment — and yes, I mean the EU — is more important that fanatics who kill their co religionists and torture to death those of the faith.
For the socialist and progressive agenda of the elite — with their edicts on tolerance and political correctness, their mistrust of the family, and their hatred of the moral, let alone the religious — is reaching the end game. Keeping their society going requires extensive medical intervention: IVF (for the aged couple, and the lesbian who wants to have children with her wife), surrogacy (for the gay man who wants children with his husband, and the aged couple who have ovaries but not the time or health to carry the child).
Not to mention contraception and abortion, so the young do not connect sex with children or commitment, and let our biological programming work so we marry young, go at it like rabbits, and have children with minimal medical interference.
I would agree with Boxer and others on this one. Surrogacy is far from the ideal being presented here. Using the Romney name likely only helps for IBB (perhaps), not most of us who just see them as a bunch of rich people who likely think they know better for the rest of us.
Basically, what this is, is women renting out their bodies (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for nine months) for a price. $$$$. Ladies, welcome to the free market.
What I think we are going to see here Brad (in the next 10 years) are college aged girls (who don’t have tuition money, scholarships, and don’t want to take loans) that are willing to “host” another woman’s fertilized egg in her body for money, big money. If it is enough money it might even cover a year or two of tuition. This will be the avenue more and more MC and UMC couples will take if they get married later and later in life.
I mean seriously, if she is an executive vice president of ‘something’ and is 43 years old, and he is 40 to 50 (or whatever) and they have no children because they just got married, they are going to seriously consider this. Money will not be an object for these people, only time and her health will be the objects. They create time and don’t risk her health going the surrogacy route.
Now having said that, let me say this: I have not said whether or not I think this is a good idea. I am only saying that this will happen. The political will is there. The people (who want children but are too old to have them) have largely voted that they want science and medicine to play God.
Watch the messages of this world: the overt message to young women that they need credentials so they need not depend on a man, and the covert message to men that they should not marry because they will be ruined in about ten years by the divorce courts as the woman they committed to dumps them and attempts to trade up.
The entire system around this — with the family court industry, transfer payments,. and increased damage to children (step fathers and thug boyfriends do hit children or worse, their biological father generally does not) is the rancid fruit of saying to society that you can follow your lusts and not God. That your hearts can be evil, and this liberating.
We need to repent. We need to pray for revival. Or we will have societies who have been destroyed for their evil — from the Amorites to the Mayan — accusing God of injustice. The end game of the progressive period is upon us. Do not be part of their agenda.
