I firmly believe that the Church will survive beyond the end of this age. Those who proclaim the death of the church are mistaken, and those who oppose it will fail. For the Church is not a work of man, but of God: it does not belong to man, but is described as the bride of Christ.

But the church will need reform. Again. We have tolerated sin within and without: both as individuals and as congregations. The hard work of purification may beyond us. Particularly when we let the leaven of illogic into the Kirk, and deny any freedom of speech, and questioning of results

And this is one of the reasons that when God appears we fear. For he is not one of us, but he is pure, and good, and sees truly. We can stand none of these things.

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years.

But what are we to do? Some would argue that Malachi refers to the coming of Christ and John the Baptiser, and it is true that he was scouringly harsh to the religious authorities of that time. it is also true that Jewry has not turned from the law of Moses from the fall of Jerusalem to the collapse of this time, and even in this day those who hold to the Law are a growing population while liberals decline. For the Law of Moses is a covenant with the Almighty, it is good, and obedience in it would lead to salvation.

If any of us could do such a thing.

But we are under the new covenant, and we also now wait for the return of our Lord. Delayed for two millennia: but for any of us the time we have in this world is short, and the fashions of this world ephemeral.

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

The teaching here is simple. Do not be fashionable. Be irrelevant, in the eyes of this world. Live truly, love well, keep the covenants. Love God and your brother in Christ. Honour the King. Do your duty.

And do not let any twit with a hashtag stop you. In times of decadence, those with honour are vilified.

What we need to do is stop apologising. Stop letting activists and monomaniac define the agenda, and what is acceptable in our society. Free speech includes harsh speech, offensive speech: It’s a relief when one is dealing with an old school atheist because most of the time they believe in logic and reason, and reason leads to the law, and the law to Christ.

Which is why the modern elite mistrust reason and call it evil. Their teaching is poison, and it will fade: they are more ridiculous by the day.

Do not obey them. Do not be them, Do not be like them. Our obedience, our loyalty, is to Christ and his Church. Do not accept any substitutes.
