The Bias of the Bad.

I think at times we forget how glorious a world we live in. We see the storms, and we hear the news on the TV, and our spirit is made anxious..

But this earth is beautiful, and most of the time the law that is within us allows us to get on and work with people, enjoy their company: the minority who harass are often the same minority who complain, and get news.

For the good is not always news. A hundred days of no accidents at a mine, or a thousand days, does not make the headlines. One person dying or injured does.

We need to remember who Christ is. He created all things: he came to save us: he is here and he wants to intervene. We need to remember that, although this world has much evil in it, it was good at creation, and the broken shafts of that goodness remain.

Colossians 1:15-23

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers — all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

21 And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him — 23 provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. I, Paul, became a servant of this gospel.

And yesterday, after the first walk of the day, the side trip to a historical suspension bridge (which had cellphone camera photos, used today) and before the second walk (there is a wildlife park in Te Anau with very rare birds in it. One bird, the takahe, was thought to be extinct. It is the first time in my 53 years I have seen one. Needless to say, the cellphone was not used) we switched on the TV while we got dry and recovered. Apparently there is a fight between the ACLU and the Catholic church where the ACLU is trying to force the Catholic Health system to provide abortion. There was an argument on RT (the Colbert Report) about this, and it took an hour of talking for the son to calm down… and half an hour of it to get me chilled out again.

[There is a simple solution. The RCC should either sell their hospitals or tell the US government that they are completely opting out of Obamacare, and the mandate. Boycott it. And if they try to forcibly direct my fellow Christian physicians to do an abortion, they should say no: leave: and if needed lose their licences and go to jail. Do not be part of Babylon. Shun Molech.]

And we need to remember that this government (in the US, or Canada, or NZ, or the UK) will end. (Fear the bureaucrats who will not end, or the super-national organizations who consider they will reign forever. They will not go gently to the night.)

For all nations and governments will die. Christ will not, for in him death is conquered. And in him we can find good, see good in nature and in our fellow humans. Including at times, the wit of our enemies.

So, when the harassers get at us, and try to censor the internetz to stop lulz, it’s time for a walk, some prayer, and to turn (again and again) to Christ. The Bad gets a lot of press, the good gets a trickle. So? The press, too, will end: Christ will not.

    Good point, Chris.

    This is my Father’s world.
    O let me ne’er forget
    That though the wrong
    seems oft so strong,
    God is the ruler yet.
    This is my Father’s world:
    the battle is not done:
    Jesus Who died
    shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.
