I despise White Ribbon New Zealand with a passion.
They lie. They imply that violence is a male problem. There is a tiny, wee problem with that.
It is a lie.
It is not true.
I am interested in violence — professionally it is one of my research interests, as my second training is in epidemiology. There are two very big cohort studies run out of New Zealand: one in Dunedin, the other in Christchurch. Both have looked at intimate violence.
And women hit men as much as men hit women.
Full stop. The campaign is based on a lie. It is time to stop acceding to the big lies that are forced on us by our putative masters, who are so afraid of offending the current sacred pieties that they will not look at the research.
There are things that i should be ashamed of. Being male is not one of them. Saying that men are more violent than women is not one of them
This is the big lie.
And the big lie is the tool of fascism. If you tolerate this, what will they do to your children?
The kind of man who will beat a woman is not going to give a shit about this campaign, so it’s only purpose is to shame ordinary men who are not likely to beat women anyway. They ought to rename it ‘the Have you stopped beating your wife? campaign’.
