Bleak Theology: Hopeful Science

Clinical Notes.

This is primarily so I can link to the reading I am doing, and blog posts I have made on these papers. It is in the form of a serial notebook.

January 2018.

There is a discussion of the genetics of schizophrenia in the main blog. On the health blog, there is a note that the Ketogenic diet is going to move to RCT trials against other diets. The British Journal of Psychiatry has a paper showing that less than half of those with Depression by DSM IV criteria get adequate treatment. In the first world: it is more like a quarter of people in the third world.

February 2018.

One of my students published a paper. A brief note of an editorial on suicide I wrote. A discussion of DSM 5 depression — noting the correlations with divorce and singlness were not discussed.

March 2018

I found one of those Finnish studies about risk factors that require the kind of data registers that simply don’t exist out of scandinavia, that found a sighificant correlation between cannabis and psychosis.

April 2018

The suicide lecture, as usual triggered students. Badly. So I went and looked up the published rates for LGBTI suicide. There is, to my knowledge, no good data for New Zealand. (Multiple papers).
