Reclaim traditions.

I am bad at parables. I am neither Jewish nor Christ: the Jews still do, and I quoted one yesterday. Today we have a couple of illustrations: the first is Dalrock’s exegesis of Deut 22:5. The command is that a man shall not wear women’s clothes, or a woman mans. Dalrock notes that women, in our society can wear anything.

I think he is wrong: women can wear anything badly. If they want to look stylish, they need to listen to Hearthrose and older women, who have worked out how to dress attractively. That generally does not mean rugby shirts and track pants. There is no dress code.

We have in our culture two kinds of clothing/styles: Clothing and styles everyone can wear. [and] Clothing and styles men must not wear.
From a practical perspective, it is all but impossible for a woman to cross dress in our culture. We have great difficulty even conceiving of the idea. Cross dressing in our culture is something that almost exclusively pertains to men, because a woman cross dressing is simply normal. From this perspective, we were already half way to accepting cross dressing as far back as the 1980s. We’ve lived for decades rejecting the idea that something God detests is even possible. Even worse, we have denied that our perspective on the issue has changed. We forgot it, and then we forgot that we forgot it.
Conservative Christians are as blind to this as the rest of our culture, if not more so. Men like Piper have spent a lifetime pretending that women (including conservative Christian women) aren’t in open rebellion. When after decades of activism women were finally able to push their way into combat roles in the US military, Piper and his colleagues went into fever dream mode, pretending that men were forcing reluctant women to act like men.

Let’s continue: I know of some women who are very strong. they are faster than me, and almost as strong. But I am in my late 50s. All competitive sports have women’s divisions, because women cannot run as fast, jump as high… and the differential is best seen in gymnastics, where the apparatus differ between men and women, playing to the strengths of each sex.

The only reason women don’t scale is that in crossfit the prescribed weights for women are scaled, as they ought to be. Ultra elite women use the male Rx weights: the male equivalent goes heavier or longer. Men and women are different.

And in our society, this is denied. But most in our society cannot stand the truth, presented in any way. This has always been. Christ taught in parables knowing that many would not understand, and called it good.

Matthew 13:10-17

10Then the disciples came and asked him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” 11He answered, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 13The reason I speak to them in parables is that ‘seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.’ 14With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says:
‘You will indeed listen, but never understand,
and you will indeed look, but never perceive.
15  For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are hard of hearing,
               and they have shut their eyes;
so that they might not look with their eyes,
          and listen with their ears,
and understand with their heart and turn —
          and I would heal them.’
16But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

We should not be afraid of the truth. There are things that we do that we should not: medications that we take for symptoms that place us at risk of more serious disorders, and when the truth comes out, particularly of the curruption of our elite and our businesses, we should not be shocked nor frightened.

Instead we should rejoice.

Men are given the message that it is evil to be white and male and Christian every day by the media. So how can it possibly not be good when that media is exposed as liars and hypocrites, and their message is shown to be as false as false can be?
One should always celebrate when the truth wins out. And there is nothing even remotely uncomfortable about these truths for us, ugly as they are. Sidehill Dodger demonstrates the lugubrious uselessness of the conservative, who sees nothing but future defeat in every victory. And if nothing else, a media that is in disarray is one that is not attacking Western civilization,

Dalrock showed that lines have been blurred: if you like, the West became a parable. Of what not to do. We did better. It is time to reclaim the traditions of our grandparents and great grandparents, for they knew how to live better.

  1. Thanks for the shoutout, Chris. 🙂

A woman in a man’s shirt is cheeky and sexy, a man in a woman’s shirt is seriously confused. Should we re-evaluate the “cheeky and sexy” part? I’m fine with that (though I have friends who are not). She’s taking on a bit of the power of the male, and the dichotomy between that power and her evident femininity is what’s creating the draw. A man in a woman’s shirt is likewise taking on the softness of a woman, and really no one likes that except gay men. Weakness isn’t sexy.

Drag for women is a bit different – men’s clothing has been appropriated for so long that a woman in a tux is just that. If the tailoring shows her curves – it’s not a man’s outfit. I can probably have a spirited debate on this topic by myself, since I understand both sides. But seriously, if she’s wearing lipstick and heels, she’s not trying to look like a man. Similarly, a kilt is a man’s garment, as is a tunic to the knee in some middle-eastern countries. We can talk about historical fashion too…

True drag is women dressing as a man would dress. You see this in some butch lesbians. They drown their curves in fabric, clip their hair short, etc. That’s IMO the abomination herein, because it speaks to the heart of the issue. “I want to appear as something I am not”. And yes, polo shirts and khakis seem to be a bit of a uniform. -shudder-
