I don’t know about this being attributable to incompetence. Speaking as a software engineer, I know that I would out of my head worried if a significant number of my highp profile clients suddenly were not visible on my software. The twitter platform is mature, and stable. It’s been around for a long while now and the code has matured.
The fact that your not hearing howls of outrage from SJW’s about missing posts on timeline, that there’s a new “Ministry of Truthiness” at Twitter, and everyone that has been noticing the changes and noting it on other platforms are exclusively from the right side of the aisle is, in my opinion damning.
I know that Hanlons Razor says “never assume malice when stupidity will suffice”, but in this case there are to many coincidences to my mind.
We have a confirmation of sorts from one of the tech people who works in social media. He’s being cautious: as he notes, the derp is strong where he works.
I work in the belly of the beast being discussed in this article and I can say it’s depressing as shit to see what’s happening on the inside. I have to do a kind of song and dance to seek out like minded people in the office and so far none of us want to upset the applecart and speak out internally due to the backlash that you can imagine. I would say that the majority on the engineering side are fairly libertarian but elsewhere most people are pretty far to the left and the derp is strong.
Lenin got this part of his analysis correct: people vote with their feet. As other commentators said to this tech, get out while you can.
Cataline Sergius has it correct. This is all about virtue signalling. For if you are a good enough lefty, your failures are successes, and you can continue to play SJW pinball.
Throw the wheel as hard to the left as you can and when the ship capsizes claim that Twitter only sank because you were too much of good lefty.
If you fail because you were a bad businessman you are dead and buried in the Valley.
But fail because you were too devoted an SJW and you are People’s Hero of Social Justice Labor. You will always be able to get another job under those circumstances.
Although I admit I was surprised that Dorsey would go out of his way to ensure that Twitter sank. Bringing in corporate shake down artist Anita Sarkeesian to captain the Twitter Committee on Public Safety was like putting Saudi Arabia in charge of the Human’s Rights Commission (which the UN of course did). This goes beyond merely trying to get money from Valley VC firms. He is trying to make the destruction of Twitter the subject of leftwing martyrdom.
Yep.
SJW pinball. Twitter had a unsustainable model: they could monetize their traffic. They have shareholders to placade, and payroll to make. Holding a Twitter share is now a the political equivelant of buying carbon credits: a form of secular indulgence.
Time to blog more, and use social media less.
