Yes, I’m quoting antipope (Charles Stross). In the main article he literally blames the mass migration on climate change, saying that because the weather is crazy people are leaving (warm) Syria for (frozen) Scandinavia, and forgetting that the climate at present is cooling, not warming.
And ignoring just how much the current US government and intelligence agencies have screwed up the Middle East. But he gets a couple of things right.
It could easily happen in England, if we see an EU exit then a Scottish exit. Most folks have no clue how the financial sector in the UK only exists on its current scale because it has full access to the EU markets, or that the USA (and, indeed, the Commonwealth) are only interested in trading/good relations with the UK because we’re a channel into the EU. I’m guessing that a BRExit would cut UK GDP by somewhere between 10% and 30% within a couple of years (and a Scottish exit would cut UK GDP by on the order of 8-11% just because of the per-capita size of the country).
If England drives over a cliff as steeply as Greece, the current level of authoritarianism visible in the Home Counties Tories and the likes of UKIP and the EDL will go nuclear and metastasize everywhere. And things will get very ugly in London when the Square Mile and investment banking sector ups and decamps for Frankfurt, leaving the service sector and multiethnic urban poor behind.
The first thing is that a fair amount of the UK GDP is banking. But it is not all of it, and a fair number of UK businesses will survive. The second is that there is a large degree of hatred among the silent classes. What stross misses however, is that England does make things, and the silent classes are not merely the upper crust of the home counties.
It is everyone who the SJW have called swivel eyed loons. Which is interesting. Particularly when the side Stross is allied with is mad, and evil.
I could not read through most of those quoted excerpts. I felt physically sick reading through what little I did of Walter Breen’s writing. That was a disgusting, twisted, evil man, and he died a thoroughly deserved death in prison.
And as for the fourth post in the series… good luck trying to read the excerpts from Delaney’s short story without throwing up. I could not read them and I devoutly wish that I could erase any memory of having gone anywhere near them.
Any SF/F fan with even a smidgen of conscience would, by rights, fall to his knees and beg the Almighty’s forgiveness for supporting, unwittingly or otherwise, the major names in the genre who carried out these abominable crimes, and those who carried water for them.
Even Robert Anson Heinlein, perhaps the greatest of the greats, is culpable of standing by incestuous paedophile Marion Zimmer Bradley, and her husband, convicted child molester Walter Breen, with words of encouragement, while at the same time ignoring those who were pointing to clear, graphic, and terrible abuse of children perpetrated by Breen himself.
It is absolutely inexcusable that the SFWA not only defends paedophiles (whether suspected or convicted) within its ranks, but openly acknowledges an actual NAMBLA supporter who has written graphic stories involving open pederasty as its SFWA Grand Master for 2013.
This is not an organisation that can claim any kind of moral high ground upon which it can stand to criticise anyone else.
Daniel also makes clear what must be done. Do not support SFWA conventions- or, hell, SF/F conventions in general. Dso not attend them. Do not let your children, under ANY circumstances, attend them. Do not allow any child, sibling, or young friend that you really care about attend any event. Starve them of funds and influence. Destroy the SFWA’s hold on “mainstream” SF/F- not least by helping us Rabid Puppies and Vile Faceless Minions nuke 2016’s Hugo Awards, as I have no doubt we will.
.
And do not, for any reason, pretend that these lunatics will sort themselves out. The established order of sci-fi fandom has shown no interest whatsoever in disinfecting the rot within. This is not to say that one should avoid introducing one’s children to SF/F in the first place. That is a stupid thing to say. But be very, very careful about what gets introduced.
Yeah. I’m a Science Fiction Fan. I’d recommend J.K. Rowling (or better, L. Jagi Lamplighter), Heinlein’s Juveniles, and C.S. Lewis to a kid. But not Stross: he plays with nightmares. Or John Ringo, who plays with scenarios that would give Stross’ nightmares nightmares. Or Vox, who writes for adults, and has some gore.
Of the older authors, Brunner is good, Neal Stephenson is excellent, as is Gibson, but both Harlan Ellison and Phil Dick should not be fed to the kids.
Better, let them read myth. Let them read the original fairy tales. Let them read Tolkien, who translated the tales. Let them read the Aeneid, the Iliad, and the Bible.
But back to this time. The left can project all the issues they want onto the right. They can blame us. They
will hate us.
But they no longer have moral authority, and they are out of viable solutions.
