For what it’s worth, all my selfish dreams of becoming some sort of great artist in this world have been mostly destroyed. The art world is unwelcoming to conservatives and especially Christians. While they’re in the midst of creating things no-one (not even themselves) understand, I work to communicate ideas about God’s love, His redemption of us through the Lord Jesus, and the resurrection (the main theme of most of my art and music). The art world despises that message. Slander the cross and you’re the next big thing. Raise the cross and you’re shunned.
With that said, the hard, bitter lesson I learned is what Jenny quoted about:
“We have to be exceptional in the ordinary things of life…”
And I’m content with that. But I’ll keep making art and music and writing though! 🙂
Thanks, Jenny!
Most of the truly good artists around — and I know a few — do not get the praise of the critics, for they seek beauty and truth. You have to create, and Jenny is quite correct in her comments.
