A good editor can get citations up: there is some gaming of this by encouraging authors to reference other papers published in the journal and writing editorials that reference all the papers.

Open access at present costs. Around 1000 to 5000 dollars. This has to be factored into grants.

Academic need to move prestige to open access. if the content public researched that means if it is an open access content that should be reasonable. but if it is a restricted content that should be restricted only.

The phrase “economic parasitism” sums up the situation really well. I also liked the idea the academics should “move prestige to open access”. And imagine if the state simply refused to enforce copyright against open access journals if the content was from publicly funded research and publication was delayed by a reasonable period e.g. 6 or 12 months. That would change everything.
