Wrongthink in an evil time

The times are fallen. Hearthie has been reminding me that the situation on the ground is more nuanced than it appears in California. Well, sort of. Like her, I live in a city where one party has held power: in my city it is for a century. All the elite support the socialist (Labour) party: the refugees are bought in, the ritual demonization of men on white ribbon day puts ribbons on the fences outside our churches, and everyone congratulates themselves that they live in a progressive country with a female prime minister who does not need no stinkin’ marriage to keep her man.

But politics is downstream of culture and culture is downstream of faith. The makers of our culture have not been Christian in my lifetime and perhaps the lifetime of my father: many moguls are Jewish, but more are progressive, of either the Communist school or Gramsci, or that of Hefner.

And their ideas have caused destruction. Vox Day describes what this has done to comics, and comics is how Americans get their mythos.

The extent of the convergence cannot be exaggerated; it is literally worse than you can likely imagine. From a transsexual Thor to a gay Hispanic Spider-man, from tedious lecturing and hectoring to homosexual marrying and villains celebrating girl power with heroes in lieu of fighting them, the culture warriors in comics have insulted their fans, rejected their roots, besmirched their heroes, and befouled and be-fattened the formerly beautiful.

In some culture war fronts, such as public bathrooms, the social justice Left aggressively pushes forward and attacks the traditional values of the Right. In others, the Left only placidly guards the territory it’s already taken as the process of SJW-convergence turns once green, fertile land into waste. And recently the Left is reeling in dismay as the resurgent Right begins to reclaim what was previously lost.

And, as we’ve come to expect from the Left, their incessant moralizing has served to cover a myriad of sins; Eddie Berganza of DC Comics was fired last week for sexually harassing both co-workers and comics fans, while just three days later, his successor was fired for as-yet-unspecified reasons.

Comics fans have responded to the social justice infestation by refusing to buy these corrupted abominations. According to the distributor Diamond, October’s unit sales were down 20 percent from last year and there are no reasons to believe that the decline will stop any time soon, as one of Marvel’s worst SJWs, Brian Bendis, just moved to DC Comics, where Superman fans fear that he will destroy their favorite superhero as thoroughly as he as destroyed various Marvel franchises.

You may quite reasonably ask yourself why any of this matters; after all, comics are a small and relatively unimportant market. But the comics of today are the movies of tomorrow. They are the seeds of tomorrow’s culture.

Much of the moral, philosophical, and cultural rot we see today was already visible in comics more than a decade ago. It is a small front in the cultural war, but it is a significant one.

Why is evil increasing? The end of time is near. But you say, Peter said that two thousand years ago. It was true then, for from the perspective of eternity any time that ends is near and the life of a man the equivalent of the life of flowers in spring. We all knwo that, for eternity is our hearts.

Peter says we should do our duty. Regardless. We should expect opposition: we should expect to suffer.

1 Peter 4:7-19

7The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. 8Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 11Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. 14If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you. 15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief maker. 16Yet if any of you suffers as a Christian, do not consider it a disgrace, but glorify God because you bear this name. 17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18And
“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?”
19Therefore, let those suffering in accordance with God’s will entrust themselves to a faithful Creator, while continuing to do good.

Last night we had a celebration of the second son, who has hit 20. It was a nice respite. This morning Robyn asked why it is that we are continually dealing with difficult people and finding everything takes too long. Why it is that we feel unsupported.

And the only reason I could think of is that we are trying to speak truth and live rightly. We are, not always successfully, avoiding the habits this narrative would encourage. We are trying to do good.

That puts us, and any like us, in opposition to the elite of this world. The times are evil. Pray for our brothers and sisters who live in worse situations: where being of faith will ensure you are unemployed at best and executed at worst.

And we should not be like them. We will be called wrongthinkers. Expect the elite to double and quadruple down as the disgust of people makes them walk away from the converged and gelded politics of this time as they have from the converged and effete church.

Expect the authorities to resist this, for they fear a restoration. They would rather see this world destroyed.
