Adapting to the new normal.

Scott is commenting on facebook, and tagging people so the message gets out there. From the USA he notes the number of attacks and has some suggestions around self-defence.

The key point here is attitude. If it gets violent, be prepared to fight or run or protect. Do not rely on the first responders: they will be fighting for their lives somewhere else. The tactics he recommends, however, only work in the USA, where there are amendment rights around guns. They don’t work elsewhere.

My first comment therefore, even before the quote is Know your local laws. The times are fallen. The police are not your friend. Do not carry anything that can be considered an offensive weapon. You cannot protect your family from jail.

It looks like the new normal is going to be a mass terrorist killing about once every 4-6 weeks in America. Homegrown terrorists and “refugees” are now in every city, every state.

You can argue the politics of it all day, but the facts on the ground are that if places like Twin Falls, Idaho are not safe, no place is.

Here’s what I suggest:

If you don’t have a carry permit, start the process. Depending on your circumstances, you can almost certainly acquire one that will allow you to carry in about 40 states.

Get training. Get ammo. And get more training. Be ready to win in a gun fight. Not just have a gun on you.

If you work or live somewhere where this is not permitted, you can still carry other lethal and non lethal objects, like knives, aircraft aluminum pen/stabbing tools, flashlights, etc.

Carry an IFAK (Individual first aid kit). Be ready to use it. Know the basics of stopping bleeding, opening airways, checking circulation. You might be your own or a colleagues first responder.

Have a plan. Stay physically, spiritually and mentally fit.

This society is collapsing in slow motion, without a big finale “bang.”

Start thinking like this:

“We’re not trapped in here with you. You’re trapped in here with us.”

OK, how does can this work?

  • If possible, live in a society that is not collapsing. Where the refugees are not flooding in. If you do, vote against any politician who does not protect your borders.
  • Include flexibility and strength training in your fitness regimen. Particularly interval training. A fight is an anaerobic event.
  • Develop an attitude of non compromise, particularly when threatened.
  • If you don’t know how to read a street, learn so now.
  • Everything in a pack on in your pockets. The essentials on you, not in the bag.
  • Nothing illegal on you
  • Carry and use what is legal, a walking stick, a small multitool, a flashlight, strong shoes
  • Carry a first aid kit that does not look like one. Some bandaids, meds for a day, a bandage, some superglue and duct tape can fit into a very small box
  • Maintain peripheral awareness. This means don’t use headphones when walking or running
  • Teach all of this to those you love

Finally, pray for each other. And bear witness to Christ. The hatred of those who despise the church enslaves many. Living without cowering at their threats or appeasing their neuroses may liberate many.
