Faith in Christ, not interfaith. [Jn 8]

The first point of rebellion against the ideologies of any age is to tell the truth. Most people will not be able to handle this: there is a limit to how much truth our self esteem can handle. Of course, wiser ages call self esteem pride, and do not worship it, but this age is fallen.

What is the truth? It is that Jesus of Nazareth is God. He was either a liar and a blasphemer or he was telling the truth. The reason the audience picked up stones is that they understood what he was saying. Jesus was claiming to be God.

Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.” The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’ Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

(John 8:47-59 ESV)

The Unitarians reject this, as do the Muslims. As do the Jews. As a result, they are converging: with one exception. If you will indulge my low taste in eschatology, both Paul and John predict that there will a remnant from Israel who will come to faith. It is not a matter to Tikun Olam. It is a matter of prophecy.

But the convergence of those in error proceeds, to my horror, to oppression of those who would choose the God of Abraham, or faith.

a member of the Mid-East Solidarity Project (MESP) at TESC, whose name was changed to Evergreen Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) in 2013. It was reported that MESP intentionally disrupted pro-Israel student group meetings at TESC and engaged in provocative campus demonstrations — such as mock checkpoints and sending students dressed as Palestinian civilians covered in mock blood to run screaming across campus.

Goss is a delegate of Interfaith-Peace Builders (IFPB) and has written a blog detailing her trip with the group.

She is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), a religious association, as well as an anti-Israel UU subgroup called Justice in the Middle East (UUJME). Goss “pioneer[ed]” an “Israel-Palestine curriculum based on UU principles” which was used a basis for a UUJME study guide. The study guide, which is only available by email, was analyzed by Legal Insurrection and found to promote an anti-Israel narrative, as well as to contain factual inaccuracies. The study guide also omits any reference to Jews having a unique historical connection to Israel; “[i]nstead, ‘Zionists’ are said to have populated a space which was rightfully Palestinian territory.”

In April 2016, UUA officials divested from three corporations that do business in Israel. In addition, UUJME proposed a resolution calling on the UUA to divest and refrain from purchasing stock in five corporations that “profit from the Israeli occu.pation of Palestine.” Although UUA no longer owns stocks in the companies, the UUJME resolution was put to a vote at the UUA General Assembly in June 2016 as “an opportunity to educate UUs about the situation in Palestine.” The resolution and failed to garner enough votes to pass.

Yes I have biases. I’m not a Jew, but Zion is for the Jews, Egypt for the Copts, Iraq for the Assyrian Catholics and Orthodox, Lebanon for the Eastern Catholic Rite. The Middle East was Christian. It should be so again. The place for the muslim is on his knees, praising God, after their baptism.

What we are seeing is the convergence of the liberals around a hatred of the peculiar, the exclusive, the demand for repentance. They want Christ and all his works destroyed. They care not a whit that they will be stoned, thrown of buildings, raped, mutilated, and crucified, if the Christians and Jews die first.

This is convergence, and it is a hell.

Let us not go there. Interfaith discussions are without utility. Instead, let us pray for the conversion of the Jews, the Muslims, the Unitarians and yes, even, the apostate prelates who think a polite academic discussion that ignores the truth of the incarnate Christ will solve every disagreement.
