The problem with modern Christendom in one sentence.

Firstly, the Zipster is talking about a series of modern moralists who are trying to recruit Aquinas by saying he said which he did not. That is a significant issue for Catholics, as they should be Thomists — it is a coherent theological system.

But exactly the same problem occurs with Protestants. As he says

It seems to me that attempts to recruit Aquinas as a way of de-fanging Veritatis Splendour just go to show that you can lead a Catholic to logos, but you can’t make him read.

We have forgotton too much. We no longer get catechized”: we do not know the creeds or confessions.

Now, there is a minority of Christians who do know these things. They tend to be reformed or Catholic (with a few exceptions: there are erudite Anglicans and Orthodox out there who have the scholastic chops to keep up in conversation). . The irony is that the Catholics and Reformed have publisehd these statements: they are now online. The word is there.

But most people cannot read, or comprehend, or think. And then they wonder why moderr Christendom is effete, powerless and intellectually bankrupt..
