I am still thinking about the issues related to unity and truth. We are told that we must keep unity and this requires tolerance. But we also know that tolerance of open sin leads to ineffectiveness. I am not quoting this, but the lectionary this morning includes the defeat of Israel at Bethel. At that time Joshua was told that Israel had sinned, and therefore they no longer had the blessing of God.
8Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; 12the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; 13let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Paul found no difference between keeping the law and Love. He argued — and he was not the first one. For once Jesus asked a Pharisee what were the greatest commandments, and the Pharisee said Love. Love God and Love your neighbour.
Jesus said he was right. But God gives us laws, natural laws such as those in Physics, and ways to live. If we do not keep them, we become nihilistic, as Bruce Charlton notes.
Modern Leftist elites are instead primarily self-destroying – only secondarily (and contingently) self-interested – even when ‘self’ is considered in a extended fashion as including genetics, ideology or both…
Think about it – unlike any other elites, modern Leftist elites are neither patriotic/ nationalist, nor are they religious – so they strategically destroy the basis of their own power, they destroy the basis of their own prosperity, and they officially hate reproduction – even if they do have children take no mind to the long term health and happiness (let alone salvation) of these children.
They hate themselves – and have created a vast propaganda apparatus (in education, public administration, law and of course the mass media) against people of their own type.
If we do not obey the Law, we are not thinking about the other person. They have become undermenschen, subhuman, or been accounted in our minds as tools for our pleasure not as those created in the image of God. (And we do not obey the Law. We fail daily. For this, we should give thanks to Christ, for he has made a way for us to be reconciled with him. Daily.)
For the alternative to love is hate. And hate leads to self hatred, which we call nihilism. The elite leftist position is thus logical without love.
But love leads to God, and therefore the elite mistrust it.
